Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life. -Picasso

"They could tell you how to paint their landscape, but they couldn't tell you how to paint mine."
Georgia O'Keefe

"A large red drop of sun lingered on the horizon and then dripped over and was gone."
John Steinbeck

"Write on your heart that every day is the best day in the year."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

"The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea."
Isak Dinesen

"A river may twist and turn on its way to the sea, but it knows its destination."

This beautiful photograph taken last week by my high school friend, Mary, of a Florida sunset, inspired me to pull a few quotes from my lengthy quote collection. I have a page in my art journal about water--and I'm going to write them all in there. I think it's important, in the digital age, to use your handwriting in your art. Someday, your children and their children will want to see it! Who knows how far in the future handwriting may become a very treasured thing. As much as I treasure the sea.

Eat soup, Write daily, Dream sweet, Stitch sassy.

  1. Hi Sandy, what a stunning photo! I adore the sea too, but sadly no longer live near it. I'm from Dublin Ireland, but moved to live in London England about 20 years ago :( Still get to go often though, as all my family are still there, I miss them lots!! and my kids adore going to see everyone back home :) Totally agree about the handwriting. It is always so lovely to look back and see handwriting details about a photo and so on. I recently had a bit of a sort out and found lots of lovely letter my Nan used to write to me when I first moved here, telling me all the news from home. They are so very presious to me now, as sadly she is no longer with us, but I always have her beautiful letters to look at and see her beautiful writing. Looking at them, makes me feel closer to her, and almost as if the letters themselves have just arrived, it's so lovely, as it transports me back in time :) especially as it's now an age or e-mails and texting. xxx :)

    1. Sue, as I was reading your comment about your Nan, it made me think of how I do not have one letter or piece of handwriting from my grandma. That is sad! So I'm glad you treasure yours. And I do hope to visit London someday--my college freshman daughter wants to go very badly. Hugs!

    2. Aww, Sandy thank you this :) I'm so sorry though you that you don't have any letters from your Grandma. I suppose in my case, it was the fact that I moved away, and other than phoning at the time, it was the only other way to stay intouch with all the news. I didn't really think about it at the time, but know I am very lucky to have such lovely memories in those letters. I hope you have other lovely memories of your Grandma too! Hugs Sue xx
