20 Husband Stars for My Crafty Shelves! - WOYWW

I had so much fun with you all last week! Your comments mean so much to me. I think it's because for the first time, probably ever, I made it to 100 desks. Yes! I visited at least 100 beautiful, messy, amazing, neat-as-a-pin, topsy turvey, wildly creative work spaces. What a privilege. And really, what a miracle--sometimes crossing the ocean to see someone's private, sacred work space on a Wednesday! Very cool.

You can find the blog party here for What's-On-Your-Workdesk-Wednesday.

A messy doodle about Mondays--trying out some new markers
In spite of all the projects I have going on, I'm really getting into art journaling. I am desperately craving a class and trying to find one. I am refurbishing an old book from a library sale that was about housekeeping, and I'm turning it into my 2013 art journal, with pages for every week of the year where I can be crazy creative! I've also vowed to fill up my Smash book before December. I love art journaling because you can just spend a few minutes a day on it and not only is it a Zen-like outlet, but it's a wonderful place to try out ideas, new markers, stamps, punches, papers, and then it later becomes a valuable reference for your work. Why have I not contributed to my art journal for months!! But no more. That thing is coming out to play every day. So, even though this work table was empty a couple of days ago, because my hubby was moving in my new craft shelves he made for me...it is happily cluttered again! Now onto my new shelves! Remember when I showed you the shelves, right after hubby had first put them together? He noticed that I had a little table in the corner that was piled with my craft supplies--and then more craft supplies were shoved under my worktable. So, he built shelves! Everything went on the bed while he moved the shelves in.
Believe it or not, all these supplies went perfectly in the shelves, and the shelves fit perfectly in the corner!

I am still working on the arrangement on the wall now--I'll be adding a ribbon board. Nice!

It's really amazing how much crafty clutter a nice set of shelves can take care of! Of course, I wish I had a cute little room where I could just shut the door and leave everything out all the time--but for now, this is a great solution. I can bring things out when I need to, and have a nice spacious cleaned up area when I want. My hubby is very handy, and I'm sure he'll build me that extra room someday (after the new deck and our other big outdoor project!) So today, he gets 20 husband stars!!!
My butterfly scarf is getting longer! I think I'll be adding in the purple spa yarn soon! Happy WOYWW! I hope you all are having a wonderful week with beautiful weather, plenty of sunshine, and loads of creative ideas and goodness in your life. Crafty hugs to you!!

Eat your favorite food...Write in your art journal...Dream up a project...Stitch on fabric, paper and plastic!

  2. Great hubby who deserves the points. I was so impressed how well the bookcase fit. BTW, check out Julie Fee Fan Baltzer's blog (sorry, I don't journal, so can't give you a direct link). You'll have to do an internet search for the address, but she is super with art journals. Much of what she does is free, too. Happy WOYWW from #4 who didn't participate last week (grin).

  8. I laughed out loud at you awarding your lovely Hubby stars. He certainly deserves them. How brilliant that he made you such beautiful shelves. They fit perfectly don't they. I spied all those gorgeous boxes piled at the side. I have two just like them. Our garden centre sells all sorts of lovely ones but I have to resist temptation.
    Enjoy your new space.

  19. Sandy, just a quick follow up to your comment. I started watching Julie when she was on the predecessor to SS, when she was a guest artist, then a guest host. She has also been on Quilting Arts TV, also on PBS. I looked her up on the internet and went to her blog. I was truly impressed, even though I don't make art journals. Much of what I make, including backgrounds, are similar to hers. That's why I suggested her. She has something called 30 days of ????? OK, I am not sure I know what I'm talking about, but once you get to her site, you'll know what I meant.

  28. Hi Sandy, your hubby certainly earned those points with the wonderful shelves he built. It is amazing, as you say, how much will fit onto them and it is such great storage space until you can one day get your own room. Love the scarf you are doing, great colour and design. Journalling certainly is an art form in itself, you will soon find your own unique style........thanks for the visit earlier. Anne x #65

  32. I always wonder - would I trade my super-geek DH for a crafty, handyman version? Hummm... still don't know the answer to that one. And Oh yes...WOYWW is good for the soul, good for the mojo, bad for the purse and the housekeeping too! But we love it, every week.

LOL! We need new badges that say WOYWW-ers do it every week! :)

  36. That shelf transformation is awesome, wish I could do that. Everything is au natural in our house, we are no handymen/women. Vegemite tastes very salt and you only put a little bit on and you need butter with it. I love your butterfly scarf, would I be able to get the pattern from you pretty please. If you send me your address I can send you some vegemite to try bridget.larsen@gmail.com

  41. Ohh! Sometimes I wish my hubby was crafty so he could build me things, but I do rather like him the way he is. Besides if he were handy he may want to spend all my paper crafting money on tools! A good sturdy set of shelves is better than gold for us crafters. You sure got a lot of stuff put away nicely on yours. Love how the scarf is coming along.

  44. Hi Sandy, it's really wonderful when our husband supports our idiosyncracies and projects!
Instead of taking a course, why don't you look through the videos on youtube first. There are so many generous artists who post what they do. Wish I had a lot of time to just soak it all up! Have fun with your journal! Patsy

  45. How brilliant your hubby is - making perfect shelves that just slide into place! Us crafters can craft from anywhere, I do mine on my bed with little trays. Never say never to a crafter huh!!! Keep smiling!!

Thank you for your visit this week and your kind comments. They are much appreciated. By the way, you are doing well to get to 100 WOYWWers. I don't get anywhere near that these days. xx Maggie #100
