WOYWW -- A little puffed up

I am standing on my Greenhouse sunporch, on a Tuesday night, looking through the door to snap this unusual angle of my creative corner of the world. This looks a little like organized hoarding! I have a few too many stacks going on right now--but I have so many projects in the works, it's hard to stay put away! This has been just a hectic week with my darling daughter starting college, our family's crazy school and work schedules, and we are still working on a big backyard beautification project. I cherish the time I can get inside, right now, to stitch, work on my new art journal, and my Etsy store plans (which will include some embroidered baby dresses--sew excited!) Come winter, I will be just the opposite!
So in my stacks here, I've pulled out one of my very very favorite vintage cookbooks--a cookbook that is a classic staple in my life.

It's the Silver Palate Cookbook! Who doesn't love this thing! I've made sooo many recipes from this book--note all the posties marking pages. I need to replace those with new page markers. But anyhoo...I have had the urge to take a day at home, when I'm busy stitching, and make puff pastry. Making puff pastry is so fun, because it's not that it's so much work...it's just that it rests for an hour at a time, inbetween rollings. I love making a batch, and being able to freeze some so it's at the ready any time!

In the meantime, Joseph has grabbed my foot and wants me to stop blogging!

Eat, Write, Dream, Stitch what's on your work table!

  2. Older cookbooks are the best!!!
I have never made puff pastry though.
I started my married life with the Five Roses cookbook. It is plain, old fashioned home cooking. I have graduated over the years to a bit lower fat, healthier cooking...but when i want to grab a quick recipe I still grab it!

  8. I think your desk is very creative. I love puff pastries and I like to make the little cream filled puffs that seem so hard to make until you make the first ones. All my friends think I am a chef or something cause I am willing to take the chance with a new cookbook! Have a great week and thanks for sharing. Vickie #68

  13. I just love old cookbooks and some of my favourites are ones inherited from my mother and grandmother with notes in their handwriting on the side. So very helpful.
Enjoy your day of baking and stitching.
    Happy WOYWW!

  14. I can see from the stained page that you use that cookbook a lot!! When I was clearing Mum's effects, her cookery snippets book was one of the things I brought home with me- it can take me back to being 7 years old and making jam tarts with her...*sigh* I miss her...
Hope your puff pastry is lighter than air :)

  20. I haven't heard of this cookbook, but I guess I have the UK equivalent, my mothers copy of the Dairy cookbook, it's full of good solid recipes for such things as pastry and old fashioned cakes etc...always extolling the virtues of real butter and long before skim or non fat milk was an option!
Had to smile at your 'organised hoarding' comment, I think....we're all guilty!!
