I'm Welcoming 2014 On My Blog and On My Desk with WOYWW #240

I hope you are looking forward to a wonderful year. We all have so much to be thankful for every day. For me, it is simply having something on my desk that gives me a creative outlet and makes me happy. It's a good sign, because it's been difficult for me the past few weeks. I lost my sweet, amazing, wonderful mother this past December. It was a very hard month. Christmas was challenging--and I adore Christmas time. I didn't even finish or send out my Christmas cards. But I had my wonderful family around me, and sweet friends. That's all I needed. So I was glad that we had already decorated when my mother suddenly passed away. Somehow, over those weeks and days my big Christmas tree and Nutcrackers and Nativity Scenes comforted and helped.

I had been working on these ornaments, some of them are for my Valentines tree. I kept thinking how much Mom would love them! She loved everything I made. Afterall, I got my love of art and crafting from her! She loved hearing about everybody's desks and projects all over the world too, although at 87 I don't think she completely understood blogging. She was beautiful and charming, dearly loved by so many people.

I've had a hard time focusing on anything until this past week really. And then suddenly, I just started quilting a pillow one day. I'll post it later...but in two afternoons when it was zero degrees outside I pieced a little pillow, even added embroidery, quilted the front, and stitched it together. I think it's my Mom pillow. I know she is with me. So it's good to be back, sharing my workdesk, and starting to feel like myself again. Hugs to you all.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, It's especially hard around Christmas. I did the same thing when my grandmother passed, just started working on a quilt and put all of my thoughts of her and my grieving into it. Even thought it's not something she would have particularly liked, I still think of her whenever I look it it.

Give yourself time, it takes longer than we seem to think it should.

Here in Massachusetts it's a brisk 5° this morning. I'm staying in and sewing!

    Happy Woyww,

  10. I can sympathise so much with you, having lost my wonderful husband very suddenly in April. Christmas was hard. I did struggle through the cards for his sake, but I put very little up in the way of decorations, just a few things that meant a lot to us both, mainly things we had made together. I am only just getting back into crafting, because I know he would want me to, and I now have a special stamp that I can put on the back of all my cards. It is a cartoon character he used to draw all the time for the children, and even has his own writing on it. My children got together and had a special necklace made for me with that character engraved into a silver pendant. Take comfort from you family and friends, and your crafting friends, who are all there for you. xx Maggie #24
