What's-On-Your-Workdesk-Wednesday 300--That's Number 300 Deskers!! Celebrate!

Watch out - I'm in a jewelry making mood!
Here's my humble craft table in the snowy early morning weekday light of the Ozarks USA.
I love working with beads and wire!
An amazing lady named Julia Dunnit graciously, patiently, humorously, and consistently allows crafters from all over the planet--seriously, around the globe--to meet up in the middle of the week and nose around each other's desks. I have never met Julia in person--I live across the pond from her. But I've come to think of her as a fellow crafter, someone in my tribe, and I'm very grateful to her for these new creative alliances in my life. It's kinda awesome, and very cool. Visit here.
This little dish was made by my artist friend Susan

What's-On-Your-Workdesk-Wednesday

When I was four-years-old, I asked my mother if I could have an old nightstand of hers and make it my personal desk. She said yes. We painted it, and I filled the drawer and shelf with my crayons, of course, coloring  books, coloring sheets, Little Kiddle dolls, ribbon, yarn, play food, a tea set, and my little Indian perfume roll-on from Avon. I sat in my little wooden chair and worked at my new "desk" every day while watching Captain Kangaroo. (Little Kiddles, Captain Kangaroo, and the Indian perfume are on my Pinterest board: My Sixties Childhood)

So here I am a few years ago, starting my blog. Had no idea what I was doing. But when I stumbled upon a crafter's blog here or there, I started noticing who they followed, and then I followed that trail and stumbled upon What's-On-Your-Workdesk-Wednesday. I didn't even understand what it was! But somehow I figured out how to link up, and the fun began. Every week. A link-up party about desks!!
Happy WOYWW 300 to Julia and all the deskers! Hugs and love to you all from my messy desk to yours.
The cross-stitch is packed up and ready for the tote bag.
P.S. As you know, from our weekly party, I'm a huge Downton Abbey fan, and I just want to let some of you in the U.K. know that you were right--after seeing the season finale this past Sunday, I'm completely delighted, I loved this season!! I want to boo hoo in my handkerchief that I have to wait almost a year to be let back in the big house. But as the Dowager Countess says...I will not complain, or explain.

  2. Mrs. Julia did such a wonderful thing when she started WOYWW it has brought so many people together.
I was like you, about blogging......didn't have a clue....LOL Now look at us ole pros.
I was raised by a Mom who could craft most anything, and could draw me closes to fit my paper dolls......without tracing them, so I also started at a very early age.
Your the second cross stitch I've come across this morning, and it is really starting to speak to my MOJO. This could be something I could teach my GDs..........................good excuse eh?

Thanks for the comment this week,
    Happy 3-0-0

  6. Look at the gorgeous colours in the photo with your beads, buttons and wire in - so Springlike! I think your desire for the weather to get warmer has manifested itself in your choice of stash today :-) I want to come and play jewellery making with you too!!
I love the story of your 4 year old self and the desk - how fabulous of your mum to let you have it and decorate it to your heart's content. I was always drawing as a child, my favourite subject was horses...I drew horses all the time (and rode them too, I was a pony mad girl!) This has made me realise that I haven't drawn anything for ages...got to rectify that!
And I give thanks for the Soul Sisterhood every week - we'd never have met otherwise and I treasure our friendship :-)

  16. Love the personal insight you brought to this weeks post. I love our little nosey into others spaces and how regardless of what our spaces are we make them our own. Sounds like you had this realised from an early age!
Thanks for sharing, and visiting earlier.

    1. Yes, exactly! A nightstand is a bedside table. I'm sure there are younger people here who do not call it a nightstand either. Tee hee!

  20. Sorry for arriving so late - been busy day!! Love what's on your desk! My mum used to make all sorts of things - I used to join in, but it was only after she died and I started crafting again did I appreciate just how talented she was…Chrisx 44

  23. Love that dish, Sandy, and I love your stories! I too love Downton Abbey!!! I saw this book about the series on SALE and I snapped it up! A gem! I loved reading it. There was this revelation about how the riding gear was kept really "clean"- the servants rubbed it with urine!!! and then removed it with water! And the high and mighty never knew!!!! Ho ho ho!!!

  26. Do you still have that little desk somewhere? Funny how small kids games gradually turn into an expensive (well, not always :) hobby! I remember hanging around and playing with the scraps of fabric that were left over from my moms sewing... Happy woyww!

  29. OMG! Captain Kangaroo! And Mr Greenjeans! Such a part of my childhood, like Romper Room. I keep waiting for the presenter to look thru the magic thingie and say she saw ME but an uncommon name meant it never happened. I used to craft with my mom too and when I was home sick I always got to play with the button box and string them into necklaces. Ah memories...

    :)
    Have a Happy WOYWW day!

  30. How I enjoyed reading your crafty odyssey, Sandy! I went straight over to your Pinterest board about your 60s childhood and felt right at home - although my childhood also encompasses most of the 50s too - and you have inspired me to start my own nostalgic page on Pinterest! I have signed up as a follower and look forward to exploring your other boards, too.

Your desk is all lovely and pink and gold, and your gorgeous beads... Good enough to eat lol!! (now that really would upset my stoma lol lol!). Thank you for your lovely comment, and for your very kind words. It's certainly been an emotional rollercoaster and I haven't always managed to keep strong or maintain my enjoyment of each day, I have to confess... However, my generally positive and bubbly personality are there underneath all the stressful overlays, and it will keep bursting out lol! Such lovely encouraging messages from my friends certainly help. I'm glad you liked my "droopy" photo - a very characteristic attitude from them both!

    Happy belated 300th.

  32. Firslty I am so sorry I didn't get a chance to visit last week and I have just red back and saw that amazing journal you are working on, I love it, you must share more. Belated 299 desk greetings. Now onto the oscars and the tv shows, yes I am a downton abbey fan and no I can not wait until the next season, it is so not fair. I get to see so much of the behind the scenes stuff working with broadcasting that it makes watching tv like this wonderful. I tend to work with more live to air stuff not series like this though but the hype and glamour of tv does have some air of fun about it except the horrible hours and the travel. Oh and the stories of behind the scenes about the logies etc I could tell would keep you intrigued for hours if not days. Anyway I must be on with it and get around to making up some more neglected posts. Thanks for sharing your desk this week it is colorful and happy. Yoda wasn't to happy about the party this week and wouldn't co-operate.

  33. Hi Sandy, I see I am not the only one who needed translation of the term 'night stand', I have seen it before but this time I Googled it and got some images, so now I can imagine a little girl at a prettily painted bedside chest learning the foundations for all the beautiful sewing you do. It is good to start young.
Thanks for visiting my desk, I have done some crafting today, my arm is not too bad at present, but it is using the keyboard that makes it so sore, so can't do too much

  34. Hi Sandy,

Don't you just love wonderful childhood memories! I went through a phase of carving every bar of soap into a horse head! Sometimes I don't know how my parents stood it -- both of them are crafty types so I'm sure that's where I got it from.

I haven't watched the last four episodes of Downton Abbey so I better catch up and see what happened......

    Thanks for visiting me already!
    Happy belated 300 WOYWW

  38. Lots of great colour there on your desk ready to have fun, Sandy. By now you have probably done the piece and are on to the next one - whilst I am still attempting to get round folk... Thanks for visiting - yes - snowdrops are such precious flowers - such slender delicate stems, and pushing their way through frosty, snowy earth. They are SO special.
    Take care. God bless.
